Talc or Soapstone was found originally in this district by well sinking and put into commercial use by universal milling of Welshpool.
For some years, talc was mined in Three Springs by the ‘Room and Pillar’ underground method. This finally became too dangerous when pillar robbing allowed backs to collapse. Talc is now being mined by open-cut or quarry method. Underground mining yielded only about 50% recovery where it is now possible to recover almost 100% by open-cut methods.
A property about two miles from the townsite of Arrino has an old copper mine, which late in the 19th Century produced 106 tons of copper ore.
